Bespoke Services
The flexibility of ModularUK’s building system allows the many benefits of offsite manufacture to be applied to individual, bespoke projects. By working closely with the client at the initial stages, the vast majority of designs can be accommodated through our modular build. Indeed, our in-house team is increasingly called upon to design innovative but practical solutions to quite exacting specifications – turning concepts into reality on time and within budget.
Kew Riverside Sales Pavilion
When building high-end contemporary homes, the client called for an equally prestigious marketing and sales suite. The architect took inspiration from The Farnsworth House by Mies van der Rohe that gives the illusion of a ‘floating structure’. Design flexibility was paramount since the building, comprising two pavilions with a link bridge, was to be subsequently relocated to a smaller site.
ModularUK designed a structure that replicates the aesthetics of The Farnsworth House with the option to reconfigure to a 2-storey layout, keeping the overall floor space.
The clean lines of the exterior are carried inside and belie the complexities and detail built in at the design stage. Special features include underfloor heating, concealed mountings for displays, and electrical floor box system to allow flexibility of layout. Maintaining a comfortable working environment in a structure of fully glazed walls meant containing the air conditioning within a well in the roof, rendering it invisible from the outside, thus retaining the overall integrity of the building.
Norwich Market
The market has been on its sloping hillside site in the city centre since around the time of the Norman Invasion. However, its market stalls last built in the 1970’s were reaching the end of their useful life and required substantial repairs.
Norwich City Council undertook at £4,6 million redevelopment of the market and opted for ModularUK’s design for a bespoke, steel framed market stall, which retained the traditional look and feel within a modular structure. 108 stalls were supplied and installed and the multilayered roof structure was achieved by using brightly painted steel panels to provide a colourful roof canopy.
The modules are fitted with remotely operated steel security shutters, ventilation grilles in the eaves, service ducts and external brackets to which the retractable perspex weather canopies are affixed.
